Let’s talk about the elephant in the bathroom—gel. For too long, this misunderstood styling product has gotten a bad rap in the curly world. Maybe you’ve had a crunchy curl catastrophe. Maybe your waves got weighed down. Or maybe you just assumed gel = stiff, sticky, and too much. Well, we’re here to set the record straight: you don’t need to fear gel. In fact, gel might just be the curly BFF you never knew you needed. First, let’s bust some gel myths!
Not if you’re using the right gel 👋 hi there, Hi! Definition Curl Enhancer Styling Gel . Gel sets your curls, but once it’s dry, a simple scrunch out the crunch will break the cast and leave you with soft, bouncy, defined curls that last for days.
First time hearing of “gel cast” or “scrunch out the crunch”? We got you curlfriend!
A gel cast is the temporary crunchy shell your curls get when you use a styling gel. It forms as your hair dries and helps lock in your curl pattern, reduce frizz, and boost definition.
Scrunch out the crunch (SOTC) will help break the gel cast. All you have to do is gently squeeze sections of curls like you’re hugging them. Keep scrunching until that stiff, gel cast is gone—and your curls feel soft and springy. Boom! You’ve unlocked the soft, defined curl level. Go forth and bounce.

Nope! Wavy, curly, coily—all textures can benefit from the power of gel. It’s all about how you apply it and how much you use.
Not with the right amount of product, and soaking wet hair, our gel plays nice with other water-based products that plays nice with your other products. The gel is flake-free, alcohol-free, and infused with botanical goodness.

Do TréLuxe products work on permed hair?
TréLuxe products are made from gentle, natural ingredients and are safe on chemically-treated strands. Originally formulated with natural curls in mind, our products can hydrate, define and enhance curls of any kind.
Do you offer fragrance-free products?
We do! Three of our most popular styling products: ReFlex Curl Styling Serum and Hi! Definition Curl Enhancer Styling Gel, and Untie the Knot Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner, come in fragrance-free options. We certainly understand that fragrances can be very subjective, and we’re working on developing more fragrance-free product offerings in the future.
Please do note that “fragrance-free” does not always equal “scent-free.” Fragrance-free means that there are no additive fragrances on top of the existing ingredients. However, there is still a scent as a result of the mixing together of all the ingredients.
