Begin Mastering Your Curls: The Quick Start Guide to the Curly Style and Refresh Set

Curls can be confusing, but when you’re equipped with The Curly Style & Refresh Set plus some key advice, you’ll be on your way to beautiful results. In this Quick Start Guide, we'll be focusing on the basics of how to use The Curly Style & Refresh Set to provide a foundation to build on as you move forward on your curl journey!

What’s in The Curly Style & Refresh Set? Also, is there anything else I need for curly success?

The Hi! Definition Curl Enhancer Styling Gel, ReFlex Styling Serum, and Curl Defining Mousse are included in The Curly Style & Refresh Set. All three of these are stylers, and we’re going to give you the best starting point of how to use them for wash days and refreshes. But first, let us ask you this? Would you expect a masterful painting to start on a messy and cracked surface? Nope! Likewise, your curls need a cleansed and conditioned canvas to set yourself up for success. Before you begin the styling routine, cleanse thoroughly with the Curl Renew & Restore Gentle Cleansing Rinse followed up by the Untie the Knot Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner.

What should I do on a wash day?

It’s as simple as 1-2-3, curlies!

Step 1: Start by shampooing hair with the Curl Renew & Restore Gentle Cleansing Rinse. Apply the Untie the Knot Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner. It’s so versatile! You can leave it in for maximum moisture or wash it out if your hair gets weighed down easily.

Step 2: While hair is soaking wet, pump the Curl Defining Mousse 1-2 times into your hand. Rub your hands together. Then rake the product through your hair.

Curl-ossary: Rake - To rake products through the hair, you use your fingers to comb the product evenly from roots to ends, resembling the motion of raking leaves.

Step 3: While hair is still wet, put a dime-sized amount of the Hi! Definition Curl Enhancer Styling Gel into your wet hand. Rub your hands together. Glaze it over your hair and then scrunch thoroughly.

Curl-ossary: Scrunching - This technique is commonly used in curly hair styling where you gently gather sections of hair in your hand and squeeze or scrunch them upward towards the scalp.

What should I do in between wash days to refresh my curls?

This is even simpler than a wash day!

Step 1: Add water. Lightly mist your hair with water. The Continuous Mist Spray Bottle is perfect for this. Then, run your wet hands down the length of your hair to work the water into the cuticles of your hair strands.

Step 2: Apply a small amount of the ReFlex Curl Styling Serum and gently glaze over the areas that need a touch up.

Wait, what about drying?

For both wash days and refreshes, you can choose to let your hair air dry or to diffuse it. We have a blog post that compares these two techniques. If you go the diffusing route, be sure to check out ReelCurls University for videos of diffusing techniques.

That’s it! Once you’ve mastered this foundation, you may want to experiment with more styling options using The Curly Style & Refresh Set, but now you’ve got the basics to get off to a great start!

Next Story Curly Hair Myths Debunked: Let's Set the Record Straight!

I am turning 60 this year! I have curly fine and thin hair which is a great combo for frizz. In all of these years I have tried EVERYTHING to reduce the frizz but not weigh down my curls since it’s so fine. I saw this brand and thought what the heck I will give it a try especially since the price isn’t crazy high. Well holy molly it is the only product I have ever tried in these many years that actually works just like it says. No more frizz and nice light curls, I am seriously amazed! I had a garbage can overflowing with all the products I had in my cabinet that didn’t work but was all I had. The more I use tre’luxe the better the curls. I am definitely going to purchase your shampoo and conditioner as well. THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZING PRODUCT!!!
