We can’t take all of the mess out of #momlife but we’ve got tons of family hair care tips.

As a curly mama of three young kiddos, I barely have time to get my hair washed on a regular basis, but I make it happen for the sake of my curls and my sanity lol. I certainly look forward to shutting and locking (a must-do for moms) that bathroom door and diving into a TréLuxe #washday routine. The scents, especially that light vanilla aroma of the Curl Renew & Restore Gentle Cleansing Rinse relax me, and I love the luxurious experience of caring for my curls, even if it involves ignoring the kids yelling “Mom!” once or twice. While this is a lil’ slice of #momlife curl care paradise, the reality of family hair care can get wild and messy.

With products, combs, spray bottles, hair accessories, satin pillowcases among the whole crew, the chances of chaos are high unless you have some good techniques and systems in place. Whether you have a big brood of kiddos or even if you’re flying solo, today you’ll find a heaping helping of hands-on tips and awesome, step-by-step videos to keep your home hair care world clean and oh-so-organized!

1. Create a Hair Care HQ

Have you ever run around the house looking for the comb to get your kid’s hair looking normal-ish in the morning madness before school drop off? I have! Who knows where the heck that comb was last seen? It clearly has grown legs and is hiding under a couch or something. Finally, I realized I needed a central location for all things hair care. Products and tools now have a designated bin in my linen closet and that has made the morning madness just a little bit calmer. Depending on your family’s needs you could use just one bin, or having a designated hair bin for each person could be helpful, too. The key here is making sure your new organizing system is labeled. Curlies, if it’s not labeled, it does not count! If you really want to get creative, you could use a hanging shoe holder with clear pockets for all of your family’s hair care products. Each family member gets a row and voila you are officially on top of your family hair game!

2. Keeping Combs Clean!

We have all types of plastic combs in the house! Wide tooth combs for detangling wet curls, lil’ baby combs for my toddler and combs with pointy ends to get my six-year-old daughter’s part just right on the off chance she relents and lets me give her a style. So how should we keep all of those combs clean and orderly? Grab some kind of tall cup or bin and label it “Dirty” or “Wash me!” to coral combs that need to be washed. When several stack up, it’s time to scrub a dub, dub!

How to Clean a Plastic Comb

Time: 15-25 minutes (based on 5 combs)

Items Needed : Curl Renew & Restore Gentle Cleansing Rinse, tweezers, nail or toothbrush, hand towel, cotton swabs, rubbing alcohol

How Often to Do it: Every 1-2 weeks or when it looks grimey.

  1. Remove hair from the combs using tweezers or your fingers.

  2. Pop them in a clean sink.

  3. Fill the sink with warm water and a couple of squirts of the cleansing rinse.

  4. Let them soak for 10 minutes.

  5. Use a clean brush to remove any stuck on grime.

  6. Rinse thoroughly.

  7. Let them air dry.

  8. Wipe with cotton swabs that are damp with rubbing alcohol.

  9. Do not rinse, allow to air dry on a clean hand towel.

3. Don’t Forget to Wash Your Satin Pillowcase

Oh. My. Goodness. The Satin Pillowcase brought a much-needed touch of luxury to my often messy #momlife. We have a toddler who just recently applied my lipstick. All. Over. Her. Face. This pillowcase is a total win for moms, because it cuts down on frizz overnight and the pretty colors make it stand out in the neverending cycle we all know as laundry for the family. Now, the tricky part is to keep people from stealing it. All of my three kiddos love it and snuggle up with it as much as possible. When I do recover it from a kid’s bedroom. I just know that it’s time for a wash! Curlies, you’ve got 2 options for washing it.

1. Handwash it and let it air dry. That is what the official directions are for the pillow, but if you’re tight on time, and isn't that basically all moms?

2. You could go the machine wash route, and we’ll show you the best way to do it. Now, kick back with that lukewarm coffee that you just found for the third time and watch someone else to the washing for a change.

4. The Continuous Mist Spray Bottle is a Must-have for Moms

This spray bottle is such a timesaver for busy moms like me. I love that I don’t have to keep pumping the handle! When my 6-year-old gets tangles, this spray bottle along with the Untie the Knot Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner is ah-mazing. We have gone from tangle-induced tears to beautiful totally detangled hair very quickly with this dynamic duo.

I also love the spray bottle to give myself a quick refresh. Some water and quick glazing with the ReFlex Curl Styling Serum gives my curls new life! And pssst ... I have even brought the spray bottle along to steamy summer soccer games. A couple of squirts on the head or face keeps my crew from overheating, #soccermom. So how the heck do you clean this spray bottle?

FAQs

Do TréLuxe products work on permed hair?

TréLuxe products are made from gentle, natural ingredients and are safe on chemically-treated strands. Originally formulated with natural curls in mind, our products can hydrate, define and enhance curls of any kind.

Do you offer fragrance-free products?

We do! Three of our most popular styling products: ReFlex Curl Styling Serum and Hi! Definition Curl Enhancer Styling Gel, and Untie the Knot Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner, come in fragrance-free options. We certainly understand that fragrances can be very subjective, and we’re working on developing more fragrance-free product offerings in the future.
Please do note that “fragrance-free” does not always equal “scent-free.” Fragrance-free means that there are no additive fragrances on top of the existing ingredients. However, there is still a scent as a result of the mixing together of all the ingredients.

Are there videos/tutorials of people using your products?

Yes, we’ve got a few different ways you can take in useful videos and tutorials that include the products in action.
We recently launched an incredible resource! It's called ReelCurls University and is full of helpful how-to videos to provide education and inspiration for curlies, coilies and wavies. We’d highly recommend checking it out!
TréLuxe social media pages share videos of people with all different types of textured hair. Check us out on Instagram (@discovertreluxe) or Facebook (discoverTreLuxe) for tons of helpful content.
