How to Style Little Girl Wavy Hair

Pressed for time, mamas? Of. Course. You. Are.

And maybe you're a curly mama who was blessed with a wavy daughter? Now you have a different hair type to figure out plus working with a wiggle worm that makes styling even harder. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered, and you can even  with the use of your fave TréLuxe products! Follow these 5 simple steps for an easy #washday and style routine for your lil’ wavy.

1. Cleanse away the kiddo crazy

Let’s be real, mamas, if you have a young kiddo, everything ends up in the waves. Peanut butter goes in the waves. Rice goes in the waves. Yogurt, yup, you guessed it! Goes in the waves. So first let’s get those mini tresses good ‘n clean.

Our Curl Renew & Restore Gentle Cleansing Rinse is perfect for delicate waves and is sulfate free, which minimizes the chance of it irritating your lil' girl's eyes or scalp. Make sure that your daughter’s hair is thoroughly saturated with warm water and then just use half of a pump of the cleansing rinse. A small amount goes a long way!

While your daughter plays with her fave bath toys (or bath paints if you’re a really fun mom willing to clean up yet another mess), gently massage the cleanser into her scalp or give it some muscle if you are getting out leftovers from lunch. With high-quality ingredients, such as coconut milk and aloe vera, your daughter’s tresses will be in prime shape for detangling!

2. Dealing with tangles? Don’t stress!

Get the detangling train running early while your kiddo is still in the bath! After cleansing, start out with half a pump of our Untie the Knot Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner. Work the conditioner into waves from tips to roots. Depending on the thickness of your daughter’s waves you may need to add more conditioner, especially to the hair in the back as that seems to be a key place for wild tangle monsters to hide out.

This is such a versatile product! You can leave it in as the name suggests or rinse it out, which we find is often best to not weigh down waves. Using a wide tooth wet comb and the conditioner, work through those tangles. Remember to start combing from the tips and work your way up to the roots. We know you’re busy, mama, but try not to rush through this step. Rushing will lead to a frustrated kiddo and an exasperated mom. If you are dealing with a really nasty tangle, be sure to hold that section of hair above the knot, so it lessens the pain for your little one as you work through it.

3. It's style time!

Two great options for lil’ wavies are our Hi! Definition Curl Enhancer Styling Gel or our ReFlex Curl Styling Serum. Both are lightweight, gluten free and have such beautiful scents. The serum includes grape seed extract and echoes a light fruity scent. Don’t be surprised if you hear, “Mommy, my hair smells soooo good!”

Meanwhile, the gel boasts ingredients such as honey extract and a slightly sweet aroma that littles will love! The gel will provide a bit more hold and the serum allows for more movement. With kids’ limited attention span, we suggest keeping it simple and choosing one to apply in the bath while hair is wet. Then plop waves in a microfiber towel to give you both a much-needed break. Now you just need the finishing touch!

4. Don't skimp on the accessories!

You’ve got your girl ready with a simple routine, now it’s time to bring on the cute. While hair is still damp, choose a style that your little one will enjoy. Classically adorbs options include pigtails, braids, mini buns or just let her rock those waves down, especially if she is pretty much done with hair care for the day. Whatever route you go, add one of our beautiful leather bows. Your daughter can choose from teal, nude, or pink. And if you are a mom who does the twinning thing, you could grab a headband in the same shade!

5. Take time to admire

We all know that #momlife is not always easy, but we hope that this routine will make caring for your daughter’s wavy hair just a bit simpler. When you have the finished style for the day, be sure to take a moment to “ooh!” and “ah!” over it and show your daughter the back with a mirror or a pic.

We know that you're tired and the to-do list is long, but these seemingly small every day moments can mean more to kiddos than we realize.

Do you already use TréLuxe for your littles? If so, let us know in the comments, and we’d love to hear your BEST kid-friendly wave, curl or coil care tip!
