You took the Curl Quiz. You got your personalized product recommendations. Maybe you even placed your order right away. Then the package arrived. You opened everything, lined the bottles up on your bathroom counter, and suddenly found yourself wondering...

"Okay ... now what?"

If that's you, you're not alone. One of the biggest misconceptions about curly hair is that buying the right products is all it takes to get great results. In reality, products are only one piece of the puzzle. How you use them, the order you apply them, how much you use, and even your styling technique all play a role in how your curls turn out.

The good news? You don't have to figure it out alone!

The Curl Quiz wasn't designed to simply recommend products—it was designed to help you build a curl routine that actually works for your unique hair. Now let's walk through what comes next.

Your Curl Quiz Results Are In—Here's How to Use Them

Think of your Curl Quiz results as a personalized roadmap—not a finish line. Your recommendations were chosen based on your curl pattern, hair goals, concerns, and lifestyle. Instead of spending hours trying random products, you've already skipped one of the hardest parts: figuring out what your hair actually needs. Now it's time to learn how those products work together. Don't worry if you don't have everything memorized yet. Every curly journey comes with a learning curve (or coil 😉).

Step 1: Learn Beyond the Products

Taking the Curl Quiz and buying the right products is just the beginning. The real transformation happens when you understand how to use them. That's why we've created a plethora of resources to help you every step of the way. Whether you're wondering how much product to use, how to refresh your curls between wash days, or how to troubleshoot frizz, we've got educational tools designed to answer those questions.

Here are a few places to start:

The more you learn about your curls, the more confident you'll become in caring for them.

Step 2: Start With Your Wash Day

Healthy curls start with a healthy foundation. Your cleanser, conditioner, and treatments prepare your hair for styling, so don't rush through this step.

If your routine includes the Curl Renew & Restore Gentle Cleanser, focus on cleansing your scalp while allowing the small lather to gently rinse through your ends.

If you were recommended the Restorative Protein Mask from the Curl Quiz, remember that it's a treatment—not an every-wash-day conditioner. Protein helps strengthen weakened strands, but like moisture, balance is key. Think of wash day as setting your curls up for success before styling even begins.

Step 3: Apply Your Styling Products in the Correct Order

One of the most common questions we hear is:

"Which product goes first?"

While every routine looks a little different, most styling routines follow this progression:

Prep → Define → Finish

For many curlies, that looks something like this:

Each product has its own job, and together they create a routine that helps your curls last longer between wash days.

Step 4: Don't Chase Perfect Curls on Day One

Here's something we wish every new curly knew:

Your first wash day isn't a final exam.

Many people expect dramatic results immediately after the Curl Quiz, but curls often improve as you learn your routine. Maybe you used too much gel. Maybe you didn't use enough water. Maybe your hair needs more moisture than you expected. That's completely normal. Learning your curls takes practice, and every wash day teaches you something new. Instead of asking, "Why aren't my curls perfect?" try asking, "What did my hair teach me today?" Small adjustments over time lead to consistently better results.

Step 5: Give Your Routine Time

One wash day rarely tells the whole story. Hair changes. Weather changes. Your routine evolves as your curls become healthier.

Give your products a few wash days before deciding whether something is or isn't working. As you become more familiar with your routine, you'll naturally learn how much product your hair likes, how wet it should be during styling, and which techniques give you the best results.

Progress almost always beats perfection.

Remember: You Didn't Just Buy Products

You invested in understanding your curls.  The Curl Quiz helped point you in the right direction, but your education doesn't stop there. Every tutorial you watch, every blog you read, and every wash day you practice brings you one step closer to healthier, more defined curls. So if you're looking at your new routine wondering, "Now what?"

The answer is simple:

  • Learn.
  • Practice.
  • Adjust.
  • Repeat.

Your curls—and your confidence—will thank you for it.

FAQs

Do TréLuxe products work on permed hair?

TréLuxe products are made from gentle, natural ingredients and are safe on chemically-treated strands. Originally formulated with natural curls in mind, our products can hydrate, define and enhance curls of any kind.

Do you offer fragrance-free products?

We do! Three of our most popular styling products: ReFlex Curl Styling Serum and Hi! Definition Curl Enhancer Styling Gel, and Untie the Knot Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner, come in fragrance-free options. We certainly understand that fragrances can be very subjective, and we’re working on developing more fragrance-free product offerings in the future.
Please do note that “fragrance-free” does not always equal “scent-free.” Fragrance-free means that there are no additive fragrances on top of the existing ingredients. However, there is still a scent as a result of the mixing together of all the ingredients.

Are there videos/tutorials of people using your products?

Yes, we’ve got a few different ways you can take in useful videos and tutorials that include the products in action.
We recently launched an incredible resource! It's called ReelCurls University and is full of helpful how-to videos to provide education and inspiration for curlies, coilies and wavies. We’d highly recommend checking it out!
TréLuxe social media pages share videos of people with all different types of textured hair. Check us out on Instagram (@discovertreluxe) or Facebook (discoverTreLuxe) for tons of helpful content.
The monthly newsletter and weekly Monday Motivation emails often contain videos and tutorials as well! We also have bi-monthly blogs that we post on our website, which take a deep dive into many different topics, including how to use the products!
